Solus Christus

Solus Christus Christ Alone

In Christ alone.  Solus Christus is one of the Five Solas of the Protestant Reformation that states the salvation of man is only possible through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  It points like a laser to the Scriptural stand that nothing or no one saves apart from Christ.  He alone is worthy of praise as our Prophet, Priest, and King as testified to in the pages of Holy Writ.

Christ is our Prophet

A Prophet is someone who speaks on behalf of God and reveals both the nature of God and His commands to us.  What better prophet could we ever ask for other than the Second Person of the Trinity and Eternal Son, Jesus Christ.  It was foretold by the prophet Moses that there would be a prophet like him ( Deuteronomy 18:15 ) and this prophecy is quoted by Peter in Acts 3:22.  Christ also refers to Himself as a prophet in both Luke 13:31-33 and Matthew 13:57.

Christ as our Priest

A priest in the Old Testament was one who went before God and make sacrifices and supplications for the people so that their sins would be forgiven.  Christ, who is our High Priest, now continually makes intercession for us in the Holy of Holies.  He entered there once, through the sacrifice of His own blood, and mediates the New Covenant between God and man.   By His sacrifice, which was made one for all, He has satisfied divine justice and reconciled all who come to Him through faith to the Father.  Ephesians 5:2 Hebrews 9:26-27 Hebrews 10:12 Romans 5:10-11 Isaiah 53

Christ as our King

Christ is our King in that He subdues us, defends and rules us, and conquers all His and our enemies.  He is the anointed King who fulfills the Davidic Covenant as promised to David by God in the Old Testament.

Christ was recognized as King by the Wise men in Matthew 2:2 and claims His Kingship in Matthew 21:5

In Christ alone is there Salvation

The Scriptures testify that in Christ Alone, Solus Christus, there is salvation.

Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

In Conclusion

Solus Christus, it is only through Christ alone by His life, death, and resurrection that salvation comes to man.  Christ is our prophet, priest, and king and fulfills these roles perfectly as the Second Person of the Godhead
